Barcelona

As Barca crowned the Champions League for the third time in 6 years last night, I felt the urge to write something about this amazing and vibrant city that I had had the opportunity to visit a few years ago. Being a progressive and contemporary city while still remaining a distinct European historical charm, Barcelona makes a perfect honeymoon destinations for the couples who enjoy to explore all the sights and sounds in an energetic city.

As detailed information of when to go, what to do, where to stay could be found easily on the Internet and most guide books, I’ll just focus about the few little things that I loved so much about this city – things that could create memories of a perfect honeymoon that last a lifetime.

* The magic fountain of Montjuïc: This has to be the top on my list as it has left me with an overwhelmingly extraordinary experience. Climb up to the top of Montjuïc at night and join thousands of others swinging to the tunes of both classic and contemporary R&B music and enjoying a spectacular display of colour, light and water acrobatics (available every Thursday to Sunday in the summer months and every Friday and Saturday during winter I believe). It’s just simply magical!

* Head to the city’s most central food market La Boqueria along La Rambla to enjoy the freshest fruits and vegetables in full colors, savor a cool mango coconut smoothie, try a variety of Spanish cheese or simply to capture mouth-watering photographs of nature’s delicious gifts (amazingly this market got me so excited about fruits for the first time in my life, for those who know me well, this is pretty big!)

* Experience Gaudi’s grand designs at numerous spots across the city. My favorite place is Park Guell, a fairytale combination of beautiful colors and shapes. Walking up splendid staircase, passing by a mosaic lizard or climbing to the top of the park for a magnificent panoramic view, you will somewhat have an idea on Gaudi’s sources of inspiration.

* Tapas, tapas and more tapas! Slip into any Spanish restaurant on the streets and order a variety of tapas for you and your loved one to share. From rings of battered squid, fried potato dices with garlic and mayonnaise sauce, tortilla Spanish omelet, to sauteed prawns and stuffed mussels, it’s everything that you crave for! And since each dish comes in a small portion, you could order as many as you wish. And don’t forget a glass of sangria to complete the experience.

* For a more cultural activity, come enjoy a vibrant spectrum of flamenco singing, dancing and music at one of the bigger music bars along La Rambla, the main touristic stroll in Barcelona. If you are confident of your moves, take lead and join in. The two of you could also try to look up a short dancing lesson together while staying in Barcelona, something that comes with you for the rest of your lives.

That’s just some of my favorite things to do in Barcelona, I’m sure even a hand-in-hand walk along the cobbled-stone roads in this bright and vibrant city would make you fall deeper in love with each other. And on a side note, for the fashionista brides, don’t forget to visit Mango and Zara stores here for a full shopping experience at the cheapest prices ever!

And for now, muchas gracias and adios my quedira!!
